It's a captivating listen that drifts lightly into clock-watching territory after about five minutes. Very few bands have tried to continue without their voice, but with Blumberg focusing on his Hebronix hbronix, the situation seems in the best interests of both parties.
If anything, the album lacks a little polish and reveals Blumberg's need for more self-editing.

It all feels thoroughly effortless. Influences are important to Hebronix because 'Unreal' sounds like a. This doesn't have to be a bad thing -- Radiohead 's most beloved song is a similarly structured piece -- and Blumberg sounds like Bon Iver at times, employing outdated tuning effects.
It's hard to say whether you need a longing for the era that Hebronix is drawing from to really love the music, but if hebornix is the case, and you miss those gold sounds of guitars from more than a decade past, Blumberg's departure hfbronix Yuck is a gift.
The songwriter has cited the early Drag City albums from Silver Jews, Smog and of course Royal Trux, and these influences sit front and center on 'Unreal,' as does that of Silver Jews associate Stephen Malkmus, whose singing style Blumberg's is strikingly similar to.
Blumberg's 'Unreal' is a major departure from the up-tempo, snappy pop-crunch of Yuck's debut. These reference points don't plague Hebronix or distract from Blumberg finding his own voice. He sticks layer upon layer of melody and harmony into one huge congealed blur, hiding secret influences and fractals and darling inflections within the grand scope of Unreal. He's still speaking to the same type of fan, but he's building on the past rather than emulating it.

At others, you feel like a sneeze caught by the wind, winding your way through zephyrs and clouds and other atmospheric ephemera. What may seem like one man just aimlessly wandering with his guitar at first, soon unfolds as something cut from finer cloth.
